Both underpasses on the Yahara path are underwater today. The Johnson Street underpass has about 8-12 inches of water on it (still passable by bike if you have clips/cages and pedal with one foot). The E. Washington underpass has about 3 inches of water over it (quite passable with reduced speed).
Lake Mendota is currently about 4 1/2 inches above the 100-year floodplain elevation http://www.co.dane.wi.us/landconservation/lakelevelpg.aspx I visited the Tenney Locks today. It looks like it is impossible to reduce the flow in the Yahara enough to keep the paths dry since waves are frequently overtopping the spillway gates. Water is covering the corners of the parking lot near the swimming area. It appears the volleyball area is below the water table (full of water). There are also sandbags set out to prevent wave-induced erosion along the shoreline near the foundation of the locks. It appears we are about 6 inches or less away from Tenney Park becoming part of lake Mendota. Lets hope it stays dry for a while! _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
