Just wanted to chime in on some of the comments and questions about our rack
lending program that I've been reading.

<disclaimer> This is just a statement of the facts as I see them. I'm not
complaining or pointing fingers at anyone. Please do not interpret any
ulterior motives in this message, as none are intended to be
conveyed.</disclaimer>

Currently, the Bike Fed makes no money off of the rack lending program,
therefore, it's not a fund raising program per se. Perhaps it was different
in the past, but currently, the racks are available for free.

Next, I have received many inquiries from well-intentioned, but perhaps
slightly misinformed people along lines of, "When is the Bicycle Federation
delivering the racks, and how many employees are you bringing to staff our
parking area?" The reality is, BFW has no means of transporting the racks
unless we rent a truck, and we currently have 3 full-time staff in the
Madison office. Staffing weekend bicycle events would quite literally
consume 1/2 of our paid weekly staff time. (during the summer months)

As others have pointed out, storage of these racks is becoming a problem.
We are currently discussing other alternatives than their current location
at Just Coffee.

And to really make things interesting, the fence-style racks, as Arthur is
fond of pointing out, do not meet city requirements for bike parking.

So what to do? We're currently discussing out options right now. Feel free
to contact me with suggestions for storage, logistics and staffing.

Again, we're open for suggestions on what to do with this program. Feel
free to drop us a line anytime.
