Been on the Square lately? Well, actually, it's been several weeks now. The signs marking the outside lane for "Buses, Bicycles and Right Turns Only" are GONE. And, as expected, car drivers are using the lane as if it's theirs. The only remaining markings are quickly-wearing-out diamonds painted on the lanes, but to most drivers, those could mean anything (or nothing).
I used to depend on being able to point up to those signs as I passed under them, whenever I found myself followed by a car driver who didn't belong in the lane. I musta looked like a dope the first time I did that recently, and found myself pointing up at a tree branch. What gives? There are no signs at any of the streets entering the Square indicating lane usage. To be honest, if I were a motorist who got ticketed (that would be the day!) for using that lane, I would fight it on the grounds that it's not indicated anywhere to be a bike/bus/turn lane.
