Thanks to a donation from UW Credit Union, folks at the University and I
gave out several -maybe 100-lights a few years ago.

There is an ongoing bike light program in Portland. A few years ago a
local advocacy raised some money and began distributing free lights.
City officials liked the idea and when they raised fines on traffic
violations a few years ago some of the money went toward free lights.

I followed up on Mark Clear's idea and contacted the DA's office about
having Mr. Dunlavy donate $ to purchase lights. An attorney hasn't been
assigned to the case yet but the idea will be passed on.

There are some creative people on this list- let's see if anyone can
come up with some ideas.

It's my understanding the reason most cyclists don't have lights at
night is they can see motorists but don't think about the fact that
motorists can see them. This surprises me in some ways because most
cyclists are motorists and should have encountered invisible cyclists.

Anybody have ideas on how we can get cyclists to realize how difficult
it is to see unlit cyclists- Any clever slogan, poster ideas, some
educational campaign?

Interesting event here...perhaps we can do something similar?
