> TRAFFIC, Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What it Says About Us) by Tom
> Vanderbilt

This looks like a great book Arthur - and the previews I have read are
entirely consistent with what I have come to understand about road user
behavior. I particularly liked this snippet from the review you linked
to:

"This basic truth - feeling safe kills - lies beneath many of the book's
insights."

I have frequently said that bicyclists would get a lot more respect on
the road if bicycles were made of dynamite. This snippet from "TRAFFIC"
seems to validate that statement. For fun one day I did a little online
research to see if bicycling while wearing a mock bundle of dynamite on
a sling would be legal - it isn't - neither is wearing a mock-firearm.

Is there any legal way for bicyclists to make drivers feel less safe on
the road?

How about a shirt with "Hearing impaired cyclist" or "Epileptic cyclist"
or "I'm drunk!" written on the back?

Or how about wearing a bicycle helmet with a pair of beer cans (with a
drinking tube) mounted on top?

Or maybe I could wear a pair of fake arms that made it look like I had
no hands on the handlebars - or maybe just one fake arm holding a fake
cellphone to my hear.
