Black Hails Funding for Badger Trail
Rep. Spencer Black today hailed the announcement that the final
section of the Badger Trail will receive funding. The funding will allow
completion of the Badger Trail between the Southwest and Capitol City Trails in
Madison and Fitchburg and the recently constructed Badger Trail which runs from
Fitchburg to Illinois. This section would be the link between numerous
existing trails.
Black noted Todays announcement is of significant transportation
importance. It would allow commuters in rapidly growing Fitchburg and areas to
the south to access the bike trail and bike route system in Madison and
Fitchburg. It will be heavily used by both commuters and recreational
cyclists. The trail segment will also be important for traffic safety.
Currently, Seminole Highway sees significant conflicts between bicyclists and
motor vehicle traffic.
The Badger Trail has been discussed for a long time. At my request, the
Legislature first voted to approve the Trail in 1997. Todays announcement
will mean that we will finally get this job done, Black said.
