The bike lane on the square (between the two travel lanes) was tested and
removed as far as I remember because it sucked. It is now a shared
bus/bike/right turn lane instead...which it was for many years. I believe there
are signs up and pavement markings that are periodicially repainted. Yes, there
are violations. Personally, I've never, ever had a problem getting around the
capital on my bike and I really wonder if it is worth hightened enforcement on
this issue. People travel relatively slowly anyway and are confused...so the
situation doesn't feel that dangerous to me. I just think there are much more
important issues to worry about. Go ahead...yell at me. I probably won't read
the replies.
