Here's the best bicycling route planner I've seen:

  http://www.cyclevancouver.ubc.ca/

A mashup of Google Maps transit agency data, announced here:

  http://bit.ly/35ZRbp (CBC.ca)

It's for Vancouver BC (and nearby areas) and comes out of UBC's Centre (sic) for Health and Environment Research. Handy features: shows grade on a per-block basis (up only), allows selection of preferences such as "most vegetated route," "least vehicular pollution," and "fewest homicidal motorists" (on this one, I kid). You cannot, however, drag the route the way you can with the vanilla Google Maps trip planner.

Pretty cool.
