TOWN OF WESTPORT — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday arrested
Lewis Burns Jr., 34, of Madison on tentative charges of hit and run
causing great bodily harm, following a crash Friday night that left a
bicyclist seriously injured.
The bicyclist, identified by authorities only as a 43-year-old man, was
hit by a car about 9:15 p.m. on Highway M near Borchers Beach Road.
The sheriff’s office said the car's driver fled the scene, but left
behind a front license plate that came back as registered to a gray,
four-door, 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. By Saturday afternoon, Burns and the
vehicle had been located, the sheriff’s office said.
The injured man was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be
serious but not life-threatening, authorities said.
