Hi, all...a query, and a comment:
1) Any suggestions on where one can take a basic bike repair/
maintenance course? I've slowly picked up a few things over the last
4-5 years about maintaining and repairing a bike, but it's still
something I'm not particularly comfortable with. (i.e. even patching
and repairing a flat is something I could probably stumble through,
but not very easily.)
Are there courses where one can walk through these sorts of things? I
still fully intend to have most things handled by my LBS (Budget
Bicycle), but I'd like to be able to deal with "on-the-road" issues as
well as manage some basic bits of "frequent" maintenance.
2) Finally took a ride down the Starkweather Creek path yesterday. It
was lovely, once I actually found the path. :-) More accurately, I
found the branch point off the Cap City path, but lost it once when it
dumped out onto a street after crossing East Wash. It's a nice idea,
but the signage is poor when you drop off the path. More annoyingly,
I was unable to easily find a map showing where it goes online -- the
City bike map PDF is out of date, and there weren't other clear maps.
I wasn't too worried about getting lost (I had my GPS with me), but if
my goal was to keep following the path...that wasn't all that easy.
Part of the issue is that I live/work on the west side primarily, so
my understanding of where the path fits into the geography of the east
side is sketchy at best.
