David, Of course cars and bikes are trouble when they crash into each other. But really, the roads can and should accommodate all of us (cars, bikes, and motorcycles). There are plenty of examples of it working just fine. Chances are, some people are going to get hurt and killed doing every single activity we humans pursue, including driving a car or riding a bike. There are ways to make something as safe as is practicable- and that is as good as life gets.
If I lived by the don't do it if it can hurt you I wouldn't use my oven, blender, or fireplace (if I had one). My approach is to try to be safe (wear a helmet, ride sensibly, advocate for good education and safe-minded infrastructure) and to keep doing what I love to do (riding a bike)- I think I can do both at the same time. -india *********************** India Viola UW-Madison Stretton Lab 115 Zoology Research Bldg. 1117 W.
