And it would be worth knowing what the on-going operational cost to maintain
58 lights? If solar powered this may be low (depending on battery life and
replacement costs).

Subject: [Bikies] SW Bike Path/Lighting Cost Estimates.

Dave Dryer provided the attached cost estimates for lighting that section of
the SW Trail from Breeze Terrace to the Beltline. (They are small files and
I hope that they go through the web portal.)

Lighting with concrete poles (58 required) estimated in 2008 @ $185,062.50.
Lighting with black aluminum poles (58 required) estimated in 2008 @
$238,549.50.
Lighting with black aluminum poles (58 required) estimated in 2008 @
$399,304.50. The solar units for each pole are estimated at $4,600 apiece.

Most of the arguments for and against lighting the SW Path have been made
but I don't recall anyone suggesting that enhanced lighting would encourage
more use of the path during the fall, winter, and spring. If lighting could
increase the use of the SW Path for transportation during the shorter
daylight times, that would certainly be an advantage.
