Dear Transit Supporter:
We have a great opportunity to expand and improve transit here in Dane
County - and the first step is to establish a Regional Transit Authority
(RTA). Here are ways you can help make it happen:
(1) Express your support for an RTA at the upcoming Dane County RTA public
hearing.
When: Monday, October 26th at 6:30 PM.

(2) Email the Dane County Board and express your support.

(3) Speak with friends, family, and coworkers and ask them to support the
RTA.
If they are interested, forward this email to them.
(4) Write a letter to the editor of your local paper during this next week
(before Saturday, October 30th).
A "template" letter is below my signature. Copy as little or as much as you
want, but it is always best to use your own words. 300 words or less long
is a good rule of thumb. Include your address so the editor knows you live
in the community - letters from "outsiders" carry far less weight!
(5) Express your support for an RTA when the full Dane County Board votes on
the matter next month.

Sample Letter to Editor
Gas prices rising...again. High costs of owning a second car...or a third.
Congestion and budget-breaking expenses just to maintain existing highways.
Worsening dependence on imported oil.
And most importantly, consider our rapidly aging population and the number
of people who cannot drive. How will they - how will WE - access medical
care, jobs, and community activities?
It is high time for Dane County to get serious about expanding
transportation choices.
We need shared-ride taxi in more of our communities. Express commuter
service into Madison from places like Stoughton and Sun Prairie. Rapid
transit through the highly congested Isthmus. Better service for all the
people who already depend on transit.
All this will take reliable funding. But not more property taxes!
How to make it happen? Step #1 is for Dane County to create a Regional
Transit Authority, or RTA. Step #2 is for the RTA to create plans and
propose a budget. Step #3 is to hold a referendum. Before we approve any
spending, we need to know exactly what we will get for our money.
Please ask your Dane County Supervisor to vote in favor of creating the RTA.
We need to take the first step!
