It would be nice if the bike industry settled on a standard for rating
lights, but I have a feeling many of the companies wouldn't want their
lights to come out on the low end of the ratings. In the mean time, there is

The reviews are updated annually (make sure to check past years) and there
are pictures of the beam patterns and distances from each light.

Anytime anyone seems appalled at how much I paid for my incredibly bright
Niterider Trinewt, I point out that not getting run over and being able to
see EVERYTHING in my path is worth quite a bit to me. Similarly, it always
amazed me when I worked in a shop and people balked at $50 - $100 for a
helmet - it is your head! How much is that worth?
