Kathryn and all: It would be nice if the bike industry settled on a standard for rating lights, but I have a feeling many of the companies wouldn't want their lights to come out on the low end of the ratings. In the mean time, there is a great comparison here:

Anytime anyone seems appalled at how much I paid for my incredibly bright Niterider Trinewt, I point out that not getting run over and being able to see EVERYTHING in my path is worth quite a bit to me. Similarly, it always amazed me when I worked in a shop and people balked at $50 - $100 for a helmet - it is your head!
