I think Heavy signage would be the only solution. No Right Turn On Red
is an option (unlikely). Or periodic ALL RED lights for safe Ped
crossing (I've seen this but it ain't gonna happen). [snip]

Putting a No Right Turn on Red sign there isn't going to help, Mark.

"No Right Turn on Red (Xam to Ypm") is certainly not working where the bike
path crosses North Shore Dr at John Nolen (an intersection discussed in a
different thread on this list not that long ago).

Years ago Gary Werner (would have cc'd him, but can't find an email)
suggested that all the motor vehicle traffic be routed through tunnels so
that the surface could be turned into a green to accommodate pedestrians,
bicyclists, football fans, or anyone wishing to enjoy that part of the city
from outside a car.

Obviously, that would be more expensive than building a tunnel for bikes, but
if we're going to build a tunnel anyway, why put the bikes and pedestrians
underground? Why not the cars instead? It would have the added advantage of
access to a much bigger piece of the transportation funding pie (since
funding for bikes/peds typically ends up being fractions of single digit
percentages of all the money spent on transportation infrastructure).
