To whom who thoughtfully salted(or sanded) the John Nolan, Wingra and Quan Park bike paths, I thank you. I just got home from running around town shooting bike pictures. I shouldn't have pushed my last stop but, fortunately, no mishaps ensued. If I wasn't riding on Kenda Quest slicks and if I hadn't had that last cup of coffee, I would have really enjoyed the ride. Instead it was just a pleasant experience.I'd much rather practice winter riding skills on nearly deserted bike paths than take a remedial winter driving test on the Beltline. I was shooting still photos for BFW for safety projects they would like to endorse. One of them is the Regent/Monroe/Breese Terrace intersection. Most eastbound cyclists I saw crossed Monroe first to the new building then crossed Regent. One third of the cyclists I watched crossed intersections when the light was red or yellow. Conversely, I saw several drivers encroach on the cross walk to either get a better view of crossing traffic or they just didn't stop short enough. Madison Police had a field day on John Nolan stopping speeders. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. For a good time watching the antics at the Machinery Row intersection, buy a sandwich at Lake View Deli on E. Wilson & S. Franklin (Germania Collectibles & Bakery) and sit at a window seat. Finally, if I hadn't been outside all day today, I would have picked up the hint that winter is here by seeing all the posts on Bikies. :-) DJ
