In an effort to get people more informed and/or engaged in the city process and issues, I'm going to try to remember to post a reminder of upcoming meetings of the Pedestrian/Bicycle/Motor Vehicle Commission. The next meeting is tomorrow (Tues, Feb 16) at 5 PM in Room 300 of the Madison Municipal Bldg (aka the MMB - the one with the post office in it.)
Normally, meetings occur on the fourth Tuesday of the month and meet in room 260 of the MMB, but we had to alter our location and date because of some other city meetings. The agenda can always be found on the city web site, in various location, but perhaps the easiest is the Weekly Meeting Schedule, found here: http://www.cityofmadison.com/cityHall/WeeklySchedule/ Besides some routine items, we will be taking up the items below. Likely none of them will actually involve a vote, but more a discussion about the issues and improvements/changes we may want to work on in the future. As always, your participation and comments are greatly appreciated. Public comment can be made in person at the time the agenda item comes up, or you can send an email to me (as PBMVC chair) or city staff Sabrina Tolley - [email protected] - for distribution at the meeting. * University Ave-Campus Dr reconstruction. Most people who have tried to negotiate this intersection, in any direction, via foot or bike are familiar with the challenges. How can this intersection be improved to make it work better for multi-modal use? Given the large number of pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders (who are pedestrians when they leave or before entering the bus), what is the best design? (Note: This item is likely to be moved up to the start of the meeting so that the alder for the district can be present and then attend another meeting.) * Information from the Madison Police Department Property Room about how they coordinate with the Bike Registration program. One issue that may come up, or may become a follow-up issue, is the change to sending bikes to a national auction house instead of doing a police auction locally. Several PBMVC members have asked how this affects the ability or ease of recovering a lost/stolen bike that was not registered. * Discussion of adult crossing guard program. Alder Judy Compton wanted to know where all the adult crossing guards in the city were located, more information about how they are assigned, how/when reviews are done to remove or add a crossing guard, etc. * Discussion on updating the Pedestrian Plan. The Pedestrian Plan dates from 1997, and was supposed to be updated every five years.
