Hello All.

I am back to report on another rezoning meeting that is approaching, and
this time I have done a bit more homework than last time.

As a part of the future Lower Yahara trail, the County is looking to acquire
a portion of the parcel at 2479 Fairview Street in Stoughton
(53589)<http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2479+fairview+st,+53589&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=51.443116,114.169922&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2479+Fairview+St,+Stoughton,+Dane,+Wisconsin+53589&ll=43.015066,-89.318676&spn=0.093634,0.222988&z=13>.
The parcel connects current DNR land to Lake Kegonsa State Park and is one
of the key connections in the future trail. A Dane County Land Acquisition
Division staffer stated that it would be one of the only acquisitions this
year if approved.

On February 24, the property owner appeared before the Dane County Zoning
and Land Regulation Committee to petition for a subdivision of his
agricultural land into: conservancy (for the trail), rural home (for his
existing home), and agricultural (for the rest of his land). Unfortunately
one neighbor also appeared at the meeting and spoke against the rezoning
because "she doesn't want a bike trail adjacent to her land due to loss of
privacy." Because of the opposition and the fact that the rezone is less
than 35 acres (it is 33.75), the County tabled the motion and sent it back
to the Town of Pleasant Springs. A PDF of the meeting minutes are available
here<http://danedocs.countyofdane.com/webdocs/pdf/coclerk/minutes/ZL20100223m.pdf>
.

*This parcel is a critical link in the future Lower Yahara Trail* that will
link Stoughton, McFarland, the Capital City Trail, and Madison. Although it
deals more with the portion of the trail crossing Lake Waubesa / Upper Mud
Lake, there is a PDF linked here

provides a lot of detail on the project.

This is a project that will serve as an excellent transportation and
recreation corridor. Both the land owner and the County are ready to
complete this transaction, but the land has to be rezoned before this can
occur. I encourage those interested in this future connection to attend the
Town meeting next week to register your support for this rezoning:
