I'm certain the path will be improved with better bridge approaches and
pavement.  However, my concern with the detour plan is turning left off of
Gilson Street onto Lakeside Street.  With automobile traffic also diverted and
ostensibly seeking alternate routes, the likelihood that Lakeside will be
selected is high which, in turn, makes the probability of Lakeside being a
comfortable environment for bikes low.  I foresee a lot of challenges between
Gilson and John Nolen for southbound cyclists.

...at least the return trip promises to be made easier by the elimination of
left-turning (northbound) autos from Lakeside onto John Nolen Drive at the
signal.

Detour is page C4.05 in the 6279plans.pdf plan set found here:

Subject: [Bikies] FYI - John Nolen Path closed March 29-May 15

News story:
http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/article_43643df4-374f-11df-aae6-001cc4c002e0.html

What I find sort of interesting is that the title for the story
reflects that the PATH will be closed. Only later in the article does
it mention road work on John Nolen itself. It's sort of nice that the
path is considered the more important aspect of the project.

Official City of Madison press release, including contact names,
numbers, etc if you have questions - below. Again, disruption of the
trail is the focus.
