Unlike many American bikers, bikers in Amsterdam and Copenhagen bike at a
generally
uniform speed (about 20 km/hr), are non-competitive, rarely pass other bikers
and do not cut
to the front at lights. (Well there were a couple of exceptions in the
video...) In spite of the
large numbers it is pretty orderly.

The biggest paradigm shift for an American biker is to realize that your
actions can impact
other bikers behind you - and when you return home you realize that we really
don't have
very many bikers in Madison.

We can only hope to have bike traffic jams like this! Honestly, I was
a bit surprised that there wasn't one crash. It seemed there were a
lot of turning movements, but I guess the faster video speed just
makes it look worse than it is. And everyone obviously knows what they
are doing and the standard "flow" of the intersection.
