| Green is a popular color to use for bike boxes, but other
| colors may be used. In this case, Madison is piloting red
| as it is the exclusive color used in the Netherlands and
| Amsterdam, the bicycle capital of the world.
=v= Yes, but they have an entirely different color scheme,
whereas in the U.S., red generally means something is
forbidden to everyone (including bicyclists). The lighter
green used in Portland has "greenway" connotations, which
seem a little more consistent to me. (San Francisco, for
some reason, is using a darker green.)
| Red is also a natural aggregate used in red-colored concrete
| and potential future use in red asphalt.
=v= I've seen good use of these in such things as raised-table
crosswalks and intersections, though it was a more muted red
(similar to brick colors).
