Most Bikies know that crossing the Beltline by bike on Fish Hatchery
Rd is a nerve-wracking experience. Coming up June 16, you have a
chance to comment on plans to rebuild this interchange:

Press Release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation:
Beltline/Fish Hatchery interchange improvements to be discussed June 16

Planned improvements to the US 12/14/18 (Madison Beltline) and Fish
Hatchery Road interchange will be discussed at a public information
meeting on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

The meeting will be held 5-7 p.m. at the City of Madison’s Larry D.
Nelson Engineering Operations Building, 1300 Emil Street, Madison.

WisDOT is proposing to reconstruct portions of the Fish Hatchery Road
interchange immediately north of the Beltline.

Proposed improvements include reconstruction of entrance and exit
ramps, and realignment of the frontage road northwest of the
interchange. The improvements include minor widening on the west side
of Fish Hatchery Road between the eastbound exit ramp and Emil Street.
The Fish Hatchery Road bridge will be raised to provide adequate
clearance over the highway. The bridge will also be widened to better
accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicular traffic.

Construction is currently scheduled for 2012/2013.

The June 16 meeting will be conducted in an open house format with a
variety of exhibits and maps available for review. Representatives
from WisDOT will be on hand to answer questions throughout the
evening. Attendees will have the option of making written or verbal
comments during the gathering.

Persons who are unable to attend on June 16 can contribute comments
about the US 12 project by contacting WisDOT Project Manager Gary
Sassman at 2101 Wright St, Madison, WI 53704, (608) 246-3859;
[email protected].

City of Madison’s Larry D. Nelson Engineering Operations Building is
wheelchair accessible. Persons with hearing impairments who wish
special interpreter accommodations for the meeting should contact the
WisDOT Telephone Device for the Deaf (TDD) at 608/246-5385.
