I don't know the answer, but perhaps you need to clarify what you mean by "takes bikes."
Any Amtrak train allows bikes under two conditions: 1. The bike is boxed. 2. The station where you are leaving and arriving has luggage service. (Some small stations only allow luggage that can be stored in the passenger area, so that limits the size of the object you can bring on the train.) Obviously, # 2 isn't a problem in Chicago, Milwaukee, or the Twin Cities. However, you may not want to box your bike. Maybe what you are asking is, "Does the Hiawatha have roll-on/roll-off service?" or will they take unboxed bikes?
