"They shut down the A40 autobahn that goes right through Ruhrgebiet on Sunday, all 40 miles of it, so people could walk and ride bike on it. And even though the bikers were on the lanes in one direction and the walkers on the lanes in the other direction, there were still "traffic jams". They even closed the on/off ramps so no more people could get on the autobahn. It was so full, we only made it a couple hundred yards before we turned around...."
