I'd suggest a bike box on Seminole Highway where it crosses the south frontage road, at least for northbound traffic. A lot of cars turn right at that corner to get onto the Beltline, while most bikes go straight on Seminole, so there is a lot of potential for right hooks.
Traffic Engineering's response to this situation was a narrow bike lane just to the left of the right-turn lane. This was an improvement over the previous intersection design, but I think a bike box would be ideal for this intersection. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dorothy Krause" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2010 11:40:01 AM Subject: [Bikies] Dunn's Marsh area bikers? Wondering whether folks that bike in the Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood (Between the beltline and Dunn's Marsh, and Verona Rd and Seminole Highway) could weigh in with some thoughts. The neighborhood association is requesting bike lanes on the south side of the Beltline frontage road (at least) and is looking for suggestions related to that request. Are there places where there should be red boxes (thinking at Seminole as well as the frontage rd by Walgreen's especially)? Other bike related requests/suggestions that should be considered anywhere in the neighborhood? This request is going to Madison, but a big chunk of the neighborhood is Fitchburg, and we can certainly make requests that way as well. Thanks for thoughts!
