The classic way is to show the cars, then show the same number of
people sitting on chairs in the position they would sit if driving the car,
i.e. approximately 12 feet apart laterally, and 25 feet (?) linearly. Then
the same people move their chairs into the position they would take up if
using bus seats. Often the bus itself is not even in the photo. Finally, you
have the same number of people on the same street riding bikes and walking.

Perhaps the simplest way to make this image is to

   1. find your favorite congested street from Bing Maps ("birds-eye"
   view),
   2. choose your angle and zoom level
   3. screenshot
   4. paste in 40 cars/drivers, then 40 bikes/cyclists, then 1 bus/40 riders

We could quickly make one with the Capitol building in back, and one on John
Nolen, and one on University...

Technology is great. The downside is that there's a bit of camaraderie lost
in not getting 40 people together to do this. The upside is that in using a
generic person, it might look a bit less, um... holier-than-thou, which, I
think, is a turn-off to some of the drivers we're trying to reach.

my .02,
John
