In a similar veirn, an article from TomsDIspatch by way of AlterNet
that tallies up some of the costs related to gasoline consumption, and
comes up with a 'real' price of $15/gallon:

http://www.alternet.org/environment/147842/gas_is_really_costing_us_about_%2415_a_gallon/

Last weekend I was dinged $9 because I chose to come home by way of
the Military Ridge trail, rather than say CTH M. I registered my
protest with the 2 DNR offiicials who were stopping riders and hitting
them up. "but how are we supposed to pay for the upkeep of these
trails?" they asked. Good question.

Anyway, I ended up paying about $2.50/mile for that stretch. Even if
gas was $15/gal, the net cost of about 50 cents/mile is a real
bargain.
