Being a Grant County native - there are no coulees in Grant County. They are all hollows - most of the early lead miners were southerners. Coulees begin north of the Wisconsin River. The brewery was started in 1852 and operated until 1972. To keep the beer cool before the advent of refrigeration, they dug tunnels into the hillside to create storage caverns. The facility was renovated and reopened in the late 1990s, and now they sell a variety of beers using the same recipes as before.
