The one place in Madison that I will not ride on the road and take the sidewalk is Northport Drive between Knutson and International and then onto the MATC area. I have a bike bell and have never had an issue with the pedestrians - my issues are with the inattentive drivers trying to turn into Northport only looking one way. It will be a huge relief when the construction is completed in a few years.
Anywhere else in Madison I will take the road or the bike paths. I am terrified of being hit by a cyclist on the sidewalk as I walk around the University of Wisconsin campus, and am very concerned about bicycle-pedestrian conflicts.
