I think this is a great idea, the bike sharing program. While there is a deficit in the state, gutting all the social programs to save $ and reducing the quality of life in the state to nothing is NOT a good thing. This elevates the city's pedestrian friendly profile to individuals and businesses that are considering relocating - as well as current residents. It's a service. Vehicle ownership has become a social justice issue. This provides a local transit option to those that don't own petro-powered vehicles.

I rekon that 'credit card' also means ATM/Debit card. If you have a savings account/Checking account, you have an ATM/Debit that you could use. If you band doesn't offer it, consider a credit union.

Extra features (GPS) are extra features. Not everyone will care. There are features in a car that I could careless about, but they are just built in. some will see it as value added. Some will see the bike as transportation. Both will see it as a great resource and use it.

A BIke-Share Kiosk will be open 24 Hours a day. A bike shop that rents bikes opens at 11AM and closes at 8PM.

This program has been on display at all the Bike the Drive events. I'm sure the city has been considering it for over 2 years.

Now we can say, "hey, we are as good as Minneapolis!"

I have a few questions about this. Why only credit cards? This will limit who
can use the bikes.Would the bikes be out year-round? Some people will ride
bikes in the winter. If they are not out year-round, when will they be out? The
GPS systems seem a little strange. If someone's in a hurry to get somewhere
using a bike, will they really be looking at that?It is a lot of money,
especially when the city is having a hard time covering other things. This is a
nice program, but why was it brought up so suddenly? ?Bike shops already rent
bikes. And there are boat rentals in a couple of the parks which benefit the
city and I believe the city does not pay the companies to do it, the company
pays rent TO the city.
