Mitchell,

By "out of line" here should mean to most readers --OFF TOPIC.  Certainly one's own political or religious views are not in question--only when expressed here out of a bike context.-----ew

However, I think this discussion is starting to hijack this group.  I would never say that anybody's opinion is "out of line," but they may be off-topic.  Perhaps we should go back to talking about something bike-related?

To Phil Statz as well as Tim Wong--your political views are out of
line.  And if any remarks are in order--they are those given on this
topic by Patrick Lenon and Mtichall Nussbaum.------ew

[(Written earlier:)  Tim, That is a smug and condescending remark.  I
had not even heard of the Goodmans before these posts and I concur with
Mitchell Nussbaum.  As for your remarks--I would expect if the Goodmans
or other larger givers to charities wished to invest tax free or make
money tax free--they could easily find loopholes to do so.  Our
GOVERNMENT tax codes provide such and then people like you complain the
"rich" do not pay their fair share when they show NO TAXABLE
INCOME--such as when they invest in double tax free MUNICIPAL BONDS.
Anyway, I believe your own political statements should not have been
tied to the charitable giving of the Goodmans.]

So
true mr Wong; and this applies to all donations! We the taxpayers got
screwed into paying for part of  Frautschi’s gift of the Performing
Arts Center, Kohls’ Kohl Center, Grangers’ School of Business on
campus, and innumerable other buildings just in Madison alone. And this
does not take into account CHARITABLE                 contributions!
United Way, St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army etc., but all the
donations that keep the churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. running!

Whew, as a fellow taxpayer, my rear end hurts just thinking about it.

I agree with you Patrick. The Goodmans did
a lot to help people in this city. And they often asked that their
names not be used because they were very shy. If it weren't for them we
wouldn't have many good things in this city. They were generous. They
lived frugal lives and gave to help others. If only there were more
people like them.

You're
entitled to your opinion, Tim, just as I'm entitled to my opinion that
your statement was inappropriate and offensive.  The Goodmans were
nothing but unselfish and unstintingly generous, and if they'd been
seeking power they could have had it many times over.  And they COULD
have had the town named after them if they'd been that kind of people.

There are plenty of real living megalomaniacs around, you don't have to
make crap up about dead people.

don't reward land speculation by using the name "goodman" for the
atwood community center; these dead megalomaniacs will soon have the
entire town named after them

For the Bikies set, this might be a
particularly interesting event, because the forum is sponsored by
various environmental groups. (I'm assuming the Bikies are
environmentally inclined.)
