I'm sure the railroad thinks Rimrock is one of the "alternate routes".
Sure, there are painted bike lanes on Rimrock north/south, but only the most courageous of bicyclists rides them (heavy motor vehicle traffic on that overpass goes fast and too concerned with entry/exit from the beltline). A problem with northbound Rimrock is that there is no sidewalk on the east; for both north- and south- bound no pedestrian signals; and the green/yellow/red signals are not visible to pedestrians or bicyclists from their respective lanes or sidewalk... This is a multi-jurisdictional problem. Rimrock at the beltline (US Hwy/WiDoT/County/City/Township) - who will blink when it comes to getting it fixed? Will it take injuries by vulnerable users before something is done, I wonder. (Please note, a new charter school is opening at the intersection of Rimrock and E. Badger Road next year. Soon there will be scores of kids walking or bicycling across Rimrock. I just hope the pedestrian and signaling is fixed before one of the kids or teachers is hurt.) However, this points out that there are no through North-South routes South of the Beltline between Rimrock and the Bike Trail (which lets you out where South towne meets Raywood). It makes the commute rough for those of us South of the Beltline. It would be wonderful if Raywood/Moorland could be fixed or if we could get a North/South route through the vast wasteland between Moorland and Nob Hill. For most closures, there's a natural detour, but in this case it's hard to think of one. I, personally, won't be inconvenienced by this closure -- if I go that way at all, it's on weekends -- but for people who will be affected, are there any suggestions for alternate routes? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Arthur Ross" <[email protected]> To: "bikies" <[email protected]> Cc: "Steve Sonntag" <[email protected]>, "Sarah Edgerton" <[email protected]>, "Scott Langer" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 26, 2011 4:52:26 PM Nob Hill Railroad Crossing Replacement Beginning Tuesday May 31st, Wisconsin Southern Railroad will begin replacement of the rail crossing on Nob Hill Road. This will require the closure of Nob Hill Rd between Badger Lane and Royal Ave. The closure will last through Friday June 3rd. The connecting path between Waunona Way and the Capital City bike path (along John Nolen Drive at the Beltline) will be closed on June 2, 2011 due to replacement of the railroad crossing. This necessary work on the railroad tracks will prevent bicycles or pedestrians from crossing the tracks at this point for some or all of the day. Also, Nob Hill Road at the railroad tracks just east of the Capital City Trail will also be closed on this day, although the Capital City trail itself will remain open for use. Please find an alternate route or mode of transportation if you normally bike these routes. Contact Tony Fernandez in City Engineering at 266-9219 if you have questions about these closures.
