At this time, state law allows mopeds to be parked anywhere that bicycles
can be parked on public right of way. The University can regulate this in
ways that the City cannot, because for parking purposes, they are considered
private property.

A number of people - people at the UW, City, and a couple of state electeds
- have been working on changing this for a couple of years. As part of the
joint UW/City bicycle task force, I asked the City lobbyist to push this at
the Capitol.

A bill was introduced in the last legislative session to allow local
municipalities to regulate moped parking, but it went nowhere. As you may
know, legislation dies with the legislative session. It has not been
reintroduced, as far as I know.

Once thee state law is changed to allow local control over moped parking,
the City can pass the appropriate parking ordinances.

Bike Fed, and maybe city people (?) are working on getting this changed, but
I don't know where it stands.
