Yes, the MPD has proven again that they can recover bicycles when they try. 


The problem is that generally they will only investigate bicycle thefts
greater than a certain minimum value.  The Specialized RockHopper in this
story was valued at $1,800 and seemed to make the cut.  However, when my
$600 Specialized RockHopper was stolen 5 years ago, the Police did nothing –
despite the fact that I saw the thief and I had a witness who also saw the
thief take my bicycle to a nearby apartment complex 1 block away from the
North Police District HQ.

To make matters worse, the bicycle recovery unit has been significantly
downscaled in the last 5 years to the point that if someone reported seeing
my bicycle abandoned somewhere, it could take 72 hours or more for the MPD
bicycle recovery unit to respond – in which time the bicycle could be picked
up by someone else.
