Yes, the MPD has proven again that they can recover bicycles when they try.
The problem is that generally they will only investigate bicycle thefts greater than a certain minimum value. The Specialized RockHopper in this story was valued at $1,800 and seemed to make the cut. However, when my $600 Specialized RockHopper was stolen 5 years ago, the Police did nothing despite the fact that I saw the thief and I had a witness who also saw the thief take my bicycle to a nearby apartment complex 1 block away from the North Police District HQ. To make matters worse, the bicycle recovery unit has been significantly downscaled in the last 5 years to the point that if someone reported seeing my bicycle abandoned somewhere, it could take 72 hours or more for the MPD bicycle recovery unit to respond in which time the bicycle could be picked up by someone else. === From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Meiers, Steve Sent: Friday, September 09, 2011 1:57 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bikies] stolen bike recovered http://www.cityofmadison.com/incidentReports/incidentDetail.cfm?id=12506 _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
