Kickoff Meetup Notes from Wed, 9/14

Bike Winter Stickers
* Will be voted on in Chicago next week, week of 9/18/11
* Once design is selected, we will work to craft a poster for early
winter season of our planned events
* As soon as we get stickers from Chicago, will work to distribute
Bike To Work
* Do a full week instead of just 1 day
* Second week in Feb was suggested & tentatively agreed upon
* Incorporate Valentine's day
* Work with Bike Fed on Share & Be Aware
* Collaborate & involve local business community to better promote
biking to work & add incentives
* Safety tips & winter bicycling basics workshop 1 week prior or so,
early Feb
* Full week would help to allow people to try, even in case of bad
weather (i.e. blizzard) during
* Use Endomondo (GPS tracking app)
Possible Kickoff Event(s)
* Saris Gala will be Sat, 11/12/11, this year
* Possibly work with BFW on doing a coordinated ride to the Gala or
other event
* Use as our winter kickoff event to promote winter cycling
* Safety class & winter basics workshop sometime early Nov
* Winter gear workshop?
Santa Cycle Rampage
* Use other Madison Santa event (bar crawl) & "piggyback" off that event
* Maybe do our event earlier on in the day to possibly make it more
family friendly, it possible
Fashion Show
* Possibly early Jan, in conjunction with other events being planned
for the Madison area during that time
* Make the event larger than last year & promote more creative winter
outfits, i.e. thermal skirts, etc.
Great Dane to Great Dane Rides
* Incorporate Fitchburg location
* Possibly plan ride to new eastside location, if possible
Other ideas:
* Winter Biker of the Season award
* Bike-in movie(s)
* "Spring thaw" event - coordinate/collaborate with WAAM to get people
thinking about biking in early spring
* Work with the USA Cycling around events being planned for Jan, for
the Cyclo-cross National Championships, 1/4-1/8
* Alleycat rides
* Continue to promote other rides, such as the FBC rides
* Work with Yellow Jersey to collaborate on the New Year's Ride

meetup to start discussing possible events/activities for the coming winter
season. Come prepared to share stories, ideas, & areas of interest in regards
to winter cycling.
