Hi Buzz:
Like many gun opponents you seem to be confining your efforts to prohibit guns to public buildings and public grounds. What about sidewalks, streets, roads, and highways? Don't non-motorists warrant the same consideration in these public places? A ban on guns in libraries and courthouses and on school grounds - but not in motor vehicles when they are present in public thoroughfares! - does absolutely nothing to protect self-locomoted bipeds when we are rolling our wheelchairs to bus stops, pedaling our bicycles to work, walking to the coffee shop, etc. Some people (you might call them the least among us kinetically-speaking) do not drive everywhere in their own motorized suit of armor. Conversely, there is the matter of gun safes. Specifically, if guns ARE banned in public buildings and public grounds - but not in public thoroughfares - it would be discriminatory to require that persons who are traveling with guns must lock them in their motor vehicles upon arriving at such locales. This presumes everyone arrives with a mobile gun safe! To be fair, such a ban would also have to require that any venue which prohibits guns must provide non-motoring gun-toters with gun safes on-site. After all, it is those who travel without armor who are most in need of self-protection - not good old boys in their three-ton Tonka trucks or the paranoid soccer moms in their rolling-fortress Excursions! I see some real opportunities to throw a wrench into the gears on this issue - provided we think out of the box-with-four-wheels. Hans Noeldner
