These Onion cartoons are not to be taken seriously -- they satirize right-wing attitudes, and they're intentionally badly drawn. Look at this one, for example -- http://www.theonion.com/articles/gelato,26493/ -- which portrays gelato as part of a plot to destroy American culture, and this-- http://www.theonion.com/articles/november-7-2011,26568/ -- which exposes the evil of compact fluorescent lights.
Some people don't get the joke, but I think they're rather funny. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Matt Logan" <[email protected]> To: "Patrick Lenon" <[email protected]>, [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2011 4:16:36 PM Subject: Re: [Bikies] Onion cartoon It is hard to tell what is supposed to be funny about the cartoon. The whole “special rights lane” is pretty funny, given that traffic engineers have intentionally favored motor vehicle traffic for decades, and would vaporize that bike lane in an instant to satisfy the wishes of the drivers. But I have to think that fact is invisible to most of the onion’s readers, so my money is on the “bike lane for cars” concept being what is supposed to be funny. So here's the link: http://www.theonion.com/articles/congested-values,26723/ It'll probably get reprinted as a straight cartoon, of course. First rule about The Onion is, the people The Onion makes fun of don't know it's a fake newspaper. ------------ Patrick Lenon _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
