In response to Robbie's post about the public hearing on the SW Path
Lighting... how do you feel about widening the SW Path to 4 lanes? (2 lanes
bike, 2 outer lanes ped) Bike Fed is considering recommending to the city
that the path be widened before they install the new lights. It's a perfect
time to widen the path considering that once the lights go in it would be
harder to widen. We get numerous complaints about bike/ped, bike/dog,
bike/bike... just about every sort of collision you can imagine! The path
user volume has grown tremendously, which is fantastic; however, we're now
experiencing some growing pains.

This recommendation would likely be met with some strong opposition from
homeowners along the path. The lighting issue was very controversial, so
this would be just adding to the controversy and complication of this
project. However, in general, I feel now is exactly the time we should be
widening the path given the high volume. The public hearing would be a
great opportunity to encourage this.

Thoughts?
