SUMMER CONSTRUCTION WILL AFFECT THE SOUTHWEST BIKE PATH, NEAR ORCHARD STREET
On May 21, 2012, construction will begin at the intersection of N. Orchard
Street and Spring Street. This construction will require closure of the
bike path and a detour of bike traffic twice, during construction. One
closure may be for up to three days to allow for installation of utilities
and the second closure may be a maximum of one day to allow for final
paving. During these times of complete closure of the Southwest Bike Path,
an on-street detour route will be provided for cyclists. The detour route
will be on N. Randall Avenue, W. Dayton Street and N. Mills Street. For the
duration of the project, when bike path traffic is not being detoured,
there are likely to be sections of temporary gravel paths installed, to
allow work to be done on the existing path. Cyclists will be advised to
dismount and walk through these gravel path sections, before continuing on
the existing Southwest Bike Path.

The contractor is required to provide 5 days notice of any complete path
closure to the City of Madison Traffic Engineering Department and public
notice of any complete closure will be provided as soon as possible.
