Groupon is offering a B Cycle annual membership for $30 for the next 2 days. Normally it is $65. This is a great opportunity if you wanted to try B Cycle, but were put off by the membership. UW staff/faculty were able to get a discounted membership earlier in the year - not sure if that's still on - but here's a chance for the general public.
And yes, I know most people on this list already bike, so may think they won't use it. But consider this: 1. You may have a friend or family member that is less hard-core than you, so maybe s/he would like to have a bike available once in awhile while downtown or on campus. Bike sharing is great for people that travel by another mode: bus, carpool, van pool, walking, but want a bike for an errand or short time. 2. Maybe you love to bike, but you don't commute by bike every day. Here's a way to have a bike available on those days when you travel another way. 3. Even hard-core bike commuters may want a B Cycle once in awhile. It rains in the morning, so you take the bus, but then it's nice in the afternoon, and you wish you had a bike to run errands or go out after work. Someone gives you a ride downtown, but then you want to stay alter, and need a way to get home. Or the reverse: your spouse or friend is going to give you a ride home, but you need to get somewhere to meet him/her. 4. Most of us also own a car, and sometimes we drive somewhere, but then don't want to drive and repark the car to go a short distance for an errand or to meet a friend elsewhere. If you have a B Cycle membership, you can take that trip by bike even though your own bike is back at the house. 5. Or my favorite, which happened just two weeks ago: You are rushing to get somewhere, and get a flat! No problem. Park your bike, grab a B Cycle, and get to the event. After the event, grab another B cycle to get back to where you parked your bike, which you can then put on the bus to fix the flat in peace at home.
