Dear Bikies community,

I have a dear friend who was recently hit while biking in the bike lane at
the intersection of E Johnson and N Pinckney. The car drove off. My friend
is fortunately ok (some bruises and a sore shoulder), but it could have
been way worse. It looks like his bike has about $1,000 worth of damages.

I'd like any advice/suggestions from anyone who knows how to handle the
situation. Thanks in advance.

Here's what I know:

My friend was bicycling eastbound in the bike lane on E Johnson. The car
was turning left onto N Pinckney, and struck him within the green painted
bike lane. My friend was able to get the license plate number (which was
confirmed by two separate witnesses), and so he filed a police report. The
police tracked down the person, and when this person did not pick up the
phone/answer the door, the police labeled him/her as "uncooperative." As a
result, the police will just mail a ticket to the address of the car owner.
The police say they can't do anything else, and that my friend will just
have to handle it in Civil Court to get money for the damages.

My friend has contacted Clayton Griessmeyer, who is going to look over the
case report, but he would prefer to not hire a lawyer if possible. Can
anyone please give us any advice on what else can be done?

Thank you very much,

Maggie
