Although I disagree with the opinion expressed here, I will give KMSH
credit for using a straightforward and meaningful subject line rather than
the nonsensical "Fact-Lite Screed" (huh???) subject line that has been
perpetuated even though the message content throughout this lengthy thread
has been about lighting and bicycle safety.

That said, I think that perhaps part of the problem is one of nomenclature
for this transportation facility. Calling it a "path" evokes a quaint and
bucolic imagery that simply isn't applicable to the situation It's not a
"path," it's a highway for bicycles. Call it the "Bikie Beltway" or
something similar and people will understand the necessity of
appropriately-designed lighting that will enhance traffic safety without
unnecessarily directing light upward and adding to nighttime light
pollution.
