Anyone planning to attend and testify might point out to the board that wide paved shoulders (like those created when bike lanes are added to county highways) don't just benefit cyclists - they benefit everyone, including taxpayers who don't even use the roads, since wide paved shoulders have been shown to cost municipalities much less in future maintenance (of roads that last longer) over the long run than the initial cost to construct the paved shoulders.

Next Monday - October 22nd - the Dane County Board of Supervisors will hold its one and only Public Hearing to receive advice from the citizens of Dane County on what programs and projects to fund for 2013. The Public Hearing will begin at 7:00 PM in Room 201 of the City-County Building. This year both Dane County Executive Joe Parisi and a number of County Board Supervisors have proposed an ambitious array of very beneficial initiatives to protect and restore the natural features of our environment. These projects deserve our strong support manifested through testimony at the Public Hearing on Monday evening and messages to individual County Board Supervisors.
