Since we don't get to wave a magic wand, we may have to live with incremental changes that bring us toward sustainability. A driverless car could do just that.

Research shows that driverless cars could dramatically reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions and accidents by pacing traffic more efficiently. Drivers might even enjoy reduced commute times and a better quality of life while commuting. Cyclists might be able to enjoy safer and more predictable automobile traffic patterns as well as cleaner air.
