hmm...as someone who rides and drives the square multiple times a day..and have
for 10 years...I can't think of ONE instance where I've seen a non right
turning vehicle ticked for going straight, not once...yet I see it a dozen
times a day plus...3 sides of the transportation safety pyramid, engineering,
education AND enforcement.......would suggest enforcing these rules on occasion
to "educate"...

Jim,
The lanes around the capitol square are not bike lanes, they are shared
lanes. Hence the shared lane markings and also text pavement markings that
say "bike bus only" and overhead signs that say "bike bus right turns only"
(or something to
that effect).

MUTCD guidance says that Shared lane markings should not be used on streets
with a posted speed limit above 35mph. I can't think of any streets in the
downtown with a posted speed limit higher than 25 mph. Even Campus Drive is,
I think, posted 30mph, even though much of it is grade separated.

=v= Clarification, please? Shared Lane Markings (sharrows, a chevron and a
bicycle stencil) are NOT supposed to be used for bike lanes, they're supposed
to be used in lower-speed travel lanes. Bike lanes are, rather, to be
indicated with just a bicycle stencil (or the text "BIKE LANE").
