It's unfortunate that Planet Bike, despite its commendable support for
clean energy, continues to give away meat (which has a huge carbon
footprint) and especially bacon, which is one of the most toxic forms of
meat (nitrates, etc.). Also, in order to get MGE to post the video, Jay
probably had to say that Planet Bike is part of "Green" Power Tomorrow, but
to say or at least imply that donating the 4% tax to MGE (in order to get
the 25ยข/kWh rate, you have to subscribe) buys green energy is simply not
true. The 4% tax MGE collects is not supporting any green energy
initiatives at the moment--I've heard the money goes towards paying for
scrubbers at its coal-fired power plants. Planet Bike probably produces
more electricity than it consumes, but unfortunately the 4% tax just
supports MGE, not clean energy.

In fact, people at RENEW Wisconsin urge people who have the choice, i.e.,
those who don't have solar panels, unsubscribe from MGE's program and
support other similar programs that actually do support renewable energy.

there's going to come a day, sure as hell, when our children or their
children or their children's children are going to look back on us--on you
and me--and say to themselves, 'My God, what kind of monsters were these
people?'"
