Second Public Information Meeting, Monday, September, 23, 6:00-8:00 PM,
Presbyterian Church, 326 S. Segoe Rd.

Please go! If you use this corridor via any mode, care about the adjacent
neighborhoods, or care about the environment, livability, or your tax bill.

The city of Madison, Village of Shorewood Hill, and University have
undertaken a study of University Ave from Segoe Rd to Breese Terrace:
http://www.cityofmadison.com/trafficengineering/nearWestTransportationStudy.cfm

Some may have attended some of the listening sessions in the various
neighborhoods along the corridor earlier this year. Now the consultants are
ready to show what they have come up with based on the needs identified. *I
urge folks to attend the second meeting, to be held at the Presbyterian
Church 326 South Segoe Road (corner with Mineral Point) - Monday September
23, 6:00-8:00 PM.*

I went to the first presentation last night at the Shorewood Hills Village
Hall - as did at least one other person on this list, but I'll let him
speak for himself, if he wishes - and it was not pretty.

The good news is that the neighborhood comments made very clear that
walking and biking along and across this corridor was hellacious. (You can
read all the comment at the link above.) Lots oand lots of people from all
neighborhoods said that crossing the road was tough and scary and there
needed to be thought to both east-west connections and north-south
connections.

The bad news is that most of the effort of the consultants seems to have
gone into planning how to get more cars (not more people) through the
corridor and intersections. Although there were two giant pages/maps laid
out with alternatives for improving walking and biking along and across the
corridor, there were about SIX giant pages/maps/plans for EACH of three
intersections - Midvale, Shorewood Blvd, and University Bay Dr/Farley. some
of the options are simply too outrageous to describe - expensive, big,
ugly, loud, and ruinous for adjacent neighborhoods (mine included.)

I will have more info about what I heard and saw, as well as an alternative
proposal, posted later, but wanted to post a save-the-date before I forgot.
