Some of you may have gotten an email (or more than one, depending on which
mailing lists you are on) about the Bike Fed Board of Directors elections.
So I thought I'd drop my two cents worth in.

Yes, I am running for re-election, but that's all I'm going to say about
that. I've been on this list long enough and involved with bike stuff long
enough that most people can probably decide whether you want me on the
board or not.

But on to a few other things. First, if you are already a member, you
probably got an email with the link to vote.

If not, here it is: http://wisconsinbikefed.org/about/board/
You can view the current board, see who is running, and log in to vote.

If you are not already a member, you can join and then vote! Yes, you can
join now and still be eligible to vote. If you are so inclined, you can
even stuff the ballot box by getting your neighbors and friends to join and
vote for your favorite candidates!

Some people have asked me who I favor, but would prefer to not endorse for
a variety of reasons. First, there are too many good candidates, in my
opinion. That means that there is great interest in both being on the board
and also helping grow the organization.

However, I will offer my general opinion about the make-up of board in
general. Then you can go to the Bike Fed site and decide for yourself.

Because we are here in Madison (most people on the list are in the metro
area at least), we might be tempted to vote for the folks that we know
personally. And there are some really good people from the area running.
Also some really great people from the Milwaukee area that probably have
lots of friends and colleagues.

But Bike Fed is a statewide organization, and represents lots of people
with a variety of interests. My opinion is that we need diversity in
gender, age, geography, outlook (commuter, road, mtb, racing, advocacy,
business, health, etc.), and skills (fundraising, legal, financial,
grassroots advocacy, political, etc.) Unfortunately, we again don't seem to
have any people of color running.

So although there are quite a few really great, talented, well-connected,
and dedicated people running from our larger metro areas, and many people
on this list probably know one or more personally, I would urge you to look
at our current board, look at their talents, hometowns, and interests, and
then make sure that you vote for candidates that might fill in the gaps.
But obviously, you should also vote for the people that you feel best
represent you as members.
