Mali was actually smiling when she came out of the trailer...Pili on the other 
hand probably almost had a heart attack, and I think she did more damage to her 
bike when she threw it to the ground rushing over to check on Mali. Yes, it was 
an illegal turn, and just think if there would have been a pedestrian in his 
way instead or in addition to me in the bike lane...

I remember pulling my kids in a trailer. It makes you VERY cautious. Especially 
after near-misses like that one. How did Mali react?

For what it's worth -- even if University Avenue had no contraflow lane, a left 
turn on red from Mills to University would be totally illegal. There's no 
plausible misinterpretation of the right-turn-on-red law that would permit that 
turn.
