I echo Mike's feelings. I'm one of those who, upon learning of the sudden and last-minute development at WISDOT, pushed for immediate construction on the east (to the consternation of others in the bicycling community) so as not to lose money available now and possibly have a long delay in getting anything done. Also on the wisdom and counsel of a very good friend, a retired WISDOT engineer, who, after reviewing the proposals, told me: "In bike path design, often times perfect is the enemy of the good. The most important thing is to get something built. We can always fix it later." Looks like from what Mike says, WISDOT is now going to fix it sooner than later, which is really good from our standpoint.

I was initially disappointed that the WisDOT preferred connector option was the east one and Fitchburg took no action, but now I am more optimistic. Because of concerns voiced by the biking community, WisDOT is looking at making improvements to the design and safety of
the east connector.

Thanks from me to all of you who cared.
